To cope with increasing flights everyday Tribhuvan International Airport plans to operate 21 hours a day effective from May 21st.
To increase it from the present 18.30 hours to 21 hours a day TIA plans to increase 1 hour extra working hour for its staff as it lacks skilled manpower.
As per the present schedule of International flights the peak hours are between 1 to 5pm. Some Airlines have shown interest to operate during the night which will reduce the present congestion. Flying in the night will avoid the nuisance of hovering in the sky for a long time before been given a green signal to land. Presently there are 28 Airlines operating flights to Nepal.
Traffic congestion is also severe on the ground due to a limited number of parking bays. Experts said that TIA had turned into a ‘roll and hold’ airport as its existing infrastructure has not been able to cope with the rising travel demand.
Without a parallel runway which the Govt has not been able make even in the last fifty years ofoperation, air traffic congestion is huge.
