TAAN Organized an Interaction program on Role of Honorary Consuls Corps (HCC-N) in Promotion of Tourism

Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) and Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) jointly organized an Interaction program with the Honorary Consul on September 2. Honb’l Minister of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA) Mr. Rabindra Adhikari was the Chief Guest of the program.

TAAN President, also the Honorary Consul of Estonia Mr. Nava Raj Dahal welcoming the honorary consuls and consul office representatives attending the program, applauded upon the role of Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCC-N) in making Visit Nepal Year 2020 a huge success. He said that honorary consuls are vitally important to disseminate the message to their respective countries that Nepal is safe to Travel, “Nepal for All season”. “Nepal being popular for mountain tourism, 1,76,295 (13.1%) tourists visited Nepal for the purpose of trekking, honorary consuls can encourage travelers of their representing country to take licensed trekking guides through registered trekking companies and get insurance mandatorily. Also, involvement of guide and supporters will generate employment opportunity, highly concern for safety and security of trekkers” he added. Sating, the indispensable role played by honorary consuls to present Nepal and tourism products in international arena, he asked for a joint effort of TAAN to increase the number of tourists in Nepal.

Honb’l Minister Adhikari asked for the possible feedbacks, suggestions and ideas to honorary consuls for promoting tourism of Nepal in International arena and also making Visit Nepal Year 2020 a huge success. Commenting upon the role of honorary consuls representing fifty countries, their networking channels can increase the visit of tourists of their respective countries. Travellers of different countries have different preferences, saying Minister Adhikari appealed honorary consuls to research upon the tourists of their respective countries to make their visit more to Nepal. He assured support from Government to private sector for uplifting the economy through tourism sector of Nepal. He primed on satellite account for recording data of tourists who visit Nepal through Air and Land.

Honb’l Secretary of MoCTCA Mr. Krishna Prashad Devkota suggested tourism entrepreneurs to limelight clean and hygienic hospitality and services to the tourists.

Mr. Sujan Lamichhane, coordinator of International Relation Department delivered a presentation on the role of honorary consuls in promoting Nepal’s tourism. He explained that Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCC-N) can play vital role on disseminating the message that Nepal is safe and secure adventure and tourism destination for all season. Also, they can facilitate and cooperate with NTB, TAAN for the promotion of Nepal in international fairs in their respective countries. Similarly, the presentation included organizing cultural and trade exchange programs for entrepreneurs and media by promoting Nepalese business, culture, social affairs in their respective representative countries.

Mr. Ang Tshering Sherpa, – Dean HCC-N and Honorary Consul for Belgium, acknowledged TAAN for taking this initiative for the promotion of Nepal’s tourism. Tourism is the biggest and fastest growing industry in the world with significant role in the socio- economic growth of nation. “The role of honorary consuls is to specially maintain bilateral relation, cultural exchange and tourism promotion” he said. “Visit Nepal Year 2020 has been declared with the aim of increasing national productivity and income, employment opportunities, increase foreign currency earning, improve regional imbalances and promoting Nepal in the most acceptable way in international arena through development and diversification of travel and trade industries with the aim of bringing 2 million tourists in Nepal”, saying this he assured the contribution from HCC-N for the Visit Nepal Year 2020 to bring more number of tourists from the respective countries. Also, enlightened upon increasing the visit of International tourists in Nepal.

Honorary Consul of Spain, also Founder President of TAAN Ambica Shrestha assured that Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCC-N) will be looking forward to contribute for promoting tourism year 2020. She suggested to promote Heritage tourism of Nepal to bring more number of tourists and express heartily thank to TAAN for organizing such event.

Speaking in the program, Mr. Deepak Raj Joshi – C.E.O of Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) stated that tourism being an experienced economy that help to change and gain new experience in life, NTB will be introducing a very powerful 20 life changing experiences in Visit Nepal Year 2020 in collaboration with private sector. VNY 2020 will include events like conference with Tourism Dean from popular tourism university of the world, Ecotourism Conference and World Trail Network conference, he requested the honorary consuls to provide feedbacks on the segments that need to be targeted to bring more number of tourists in Nepal. Similarly, he requested honorary consuls to bring big media houses, tour operators, corporate icons in Nepal through their networking channels. Mr. Joshi highlighting the role of HCC-N in trade and tourism, he stated to build a formal as well as informal network amongst public and private sector.

TAAN General Secretary Ang Pemba Sherpa commenting upon the challenges faced by tourism industry of Nepal, said that Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCC-N) can promote Nepal by encouraging international media and bloggers to write on Nepal’s tourism. He anticipated that honorary consuls will play an important role to make Visit Nepal Year 2020 a grand accomplishment.

Concluding the program, TAAN Senior Vice President Khum Bahadur Subedi aspired the suggestions from Honorary Consular Corps Nepal (HCC-N) for promoting Nepal’s tourism in international arena.
