TAAN President Mr. Nava Raj Dahal welcomed Her Excellency Ms. Swarna Perera, Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Nepal with khadas and bouquet.
He expressed the friendly relationship among Nepal and Sri Lanka having long bilateral relations sharing many commonalities in terms of culture, religion and natural diversity. He emphasized upon the discussion program held to explore and identify strategies and action plans to promote tourism between two countries and hoped that the program to offer Nepali tour and trekking operators a chance to know more about Sri Lanka and its attraction to develop tour and trekking packages linking Nepal and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, Her Excellency Perera gave a presentation on Sri Lanka. Speaking about Sri Lanka, filled with breathtaking landscape, governed by rising mountain, lush forests, ocean like tanks and gushing waterfalls that make it an absolute paradise. She projected the history, attractions like heritage sites, unique culture, wildlife, temples, traditional dances, handicrafts, sea, adventure travel tales of Sri Lanka. Showcasing the religious and cultural similarity between Nepal and Sri Lanka, she said “74% of Srilankan citizens visit Lumbini, Birthplace of Gautam Buddha whereas Nepalese citizen visits Sri Lanka to learn Buddhism.” She suggested to introduce new packages for Sri Lanka- Nepal Tour by developing people to people relationship with tour operators.
TAAN General Secretary Ang Pemba Sherpa sated that the discussion program will lead to link Nepal’s Himalaya with Sri Lanka’s sea by developing suitable packages in near future.
Closing the program, Senior Vice President extended his gratitude towards His Excellency and her official team for presenting and exchanging information about Sri Lanka.
TAAN Past Presidents Mr. J.B. Singh, Mrs. Yankila Sherpa, Immediate Past President Chandra Prasad Rijal, Past General Secretaries Mr. Mohan Lamsal, Mr. Karna Lama, Mr. Bikram Neupane, TAAN Central Executive Committee and tourism journalists are present at the program.
