Pokhara, 21 August – The opening ceremony of the 11th edition of Rotaract Global Model United Nations was observed yesterday. The event, having been organized globally at different cities of the world is being held at Pokhara from 21st – 24th August, 2019.The event features 4 days of discussion, in depth policy research and unique debates among the participating delegates from Nepal, India, Netherlands and Lebanon.
The opening ceremony had the presence of Hon. Ram Saran Basnet, Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development, Gandaki Province as the Chief Guest. The convoy of guests included Rotarian Kiran Lal Shrestha, District Governor, Rotary International District 3292, Nepal and Bhutan, Rtn. RajibPokhrel, District Governor- Elect, Rotary International District 3292, Nepal and Bhutan, Dr. YuriyKryvonos , Country Director, United Nation`s Centre for International Peace and Disarmament ( UNRCPD) , Mr. BijayaRajbhandari and other Rotary District Officials.
The opening ceremony highlights included the welcome address by RotaractorSnehaShakya, District Rotaract Representative, Rotary International District 3292, who welcomed all the delegates from different countries. Likewise, she shared she is honored to have got to organize an event of such stature. The opening ceremony also had the handover of the gavel and gong to the Conference Secretary General Ms. MarushkaStrah. Ms. Strah called the meeting into order and addressed the delegates. She further highlighted on the contents that the event has to offer. Rtn. Dan Bahadur Chand, District Rotaract Committee Chair, Rotary International District 3292 delivered his best wishes to the delegates for a memorable conference.
As one of the major highlights of the event Nepal and Bhutan, Rtn. RajibPokhrel, District Governor- Elect, Rotary International District 3292, Nepal and Bhutan, delivered a key note address on the topic “Rotary promoting international peace and understanding”. He highlighted on the rotary activities and its global contribution. He shared how Rotary International has been promoting international Peace and understanding at both micro and macro level and how its action is creating a sustained change.
Chief Guest. Hon. Ram Saran Basnet, Minister of Physical Infrastructure Development, Gandaki Province shared that he is happy that such international event is being held in Gandaki Province and encouraged the organizers and delegates to engage in more of such events that help in professional and personal development of youth.
Rotarian Kiran Lal Shrestha, District Governor, Rotary International District 3292, Nepal and Bhutan shared that he was delighted to host several delegates and chairs participating from different countries and different parts of Nepal in the conference in Pokhara. He concluded the event by extending his best wishes to the delegates and the organizers.
